the top

oh guess what!!! my dady went to taiwan.. and he got me a top!!!!!! wow... how happy i am (sarcastic tone). hah.. anyway.. little did i know that this little thing could do amazing things!!!!!!

i did a test.. and.. well.. it could spin without stopping for ten minutes!!!!how wonderful is that???

a few physics concepts were applied to it

1st: law of conservation of momentum
so.. it has a round disk in the middle, which spins.. of course.. and well , any point on the revolving disk has zero velocity, which equals zero momentum!! even though when its spinning!!

2nd: frictional force
this is very smart, frictional force was kept at a minimum, and.. which resulted in negligible resistance. instead if using bearings, its was a rod with two pointed ends enclosed on flat surfaces. small surface area results in little frictional contact. very cool.

i think these two physics concepts are the most significant applications in making this top such a success.
